Have you ever looked around and thought, “Everyone else seems to have it together, I don’t.” That’s where confidence often begins, not at the top, but at the bottom, when you decide you’re not going to stay there.

Take the story of Lizzy. At 14, she felt stuck. She had ADD, she struggled to keep up in class, and she watched her friends breeze through school. She says she asked herself, “Why can’t I be like them?”

But instead of giving up, she made three shifts that turned doubt into drive. And you can too.

1. She admitted the doubt

Lizzy didn’t pretend everything was fine. She accepted that she was in a place of uncertainty, and that’s okay. It’s the first step: not hiding the struggle, but naming it. When you say, “I feel small,” you give yourself a chance to grow.

2. She focused on her growth, not their track

Instead of comparing herself to others, she asked: “What works for me?” Because the truth is: your path will be unique. What looks like someone else’s “fast track” might not fit you. She found her strengths, routines that helped her stay focused (despite ADD), and celebrated each small win. When you shift from “I’m behind” to “I’m learning,” you trade shame for momentum.

3. She kept going when it got messy

Confidence wasn’t a single moment for Lizzy; it was a series of choices: showing up, trying again, falling, and showing up again. She discovered that “I can’t” often means “not yet.” Her drive was fueled not by perfection, but by persistence.

Closing: Your Confidence Journey Starts Now

If you’re reading this right now and you feel like Lizzy once did, unsure, comparing, stuck, good. That means you can start moving. Because confidence doesn’t pop up when everything’s perfect. It grows when you move, even when things are imperfect. Lizzy didn’t know it, but she was practicing powerhouse moves!

Ask yourself today:

  • What’s one thing I feel behind about?

  • What’s one small step I can take right now?

  • What will I keep doing even if it doesn’t work out the first time?

Your drive doesn’t need to be loud. It just needs to be consistent. You’re not already perfect. But you are already on the way. Start today. Keep going. You’ve got this.
